One million is the number of people beyond the expected target that have signed up for the Affordable Health Care Act. A total of eight million people are buying insurance through the government. A great deal of younger citizens made the decision to sign up during the last few weeks of enrollment. However, only 1 out of every 5 enrolled have paid their premium and are actually receiving coverage.

Many analysts doubted that the Affordable Health Care Act would recruit enough young people. However, the white house released the statistic that twenty-eight percent of the enrolled are citizens between the ages of eighteen and thirty-four. The ultimate goal is to have around 40 percent of people enrolled to fall in this age group. Lower premiums will likely be a result of increased young person enrollment.

The President is optimistic for the future, and states that spending related to health care is rising slower than it ever has since the 1970’s.
